Fundraiser for Eritrean Community Center of MN

Tax deductible
The Eritrean Community Center of Minnesota humbly asks for your generous donations in any amount. The Eritrean Community Center of Minnesota is a minority owned Community Center funded by renting the venue for events, accepting donations and collecting membership fees. The Community Center has been the central hub for all Eritrean and non-Eritrean related activities in Minnesota since it was purchased in the year 2000. The Community Center has functioned as a primary place for meetings, weddings, baptisms, graduations, grieving and mourning and as a general location for Eritreans and other communities of color, to conduct their cultural and social gatherings.

In the past five years, the center has made building improvements at an accelerated pace in order to make the center a more viable and vibrant location that provides not only a venue for gathering but which also provides services. We have repaired a dilapidated leaky roof, installed commercial-grade heating and cooling system, replaced an unsightly floor at the large hall, built an event stage, improved the privacy on the bathroom entrances, erected new fencing to surround the large parking space, and many more other improvements. As a result of all these improvements we have been able to start two language classes for children and young adults from the age of 7 to 14 and from 14 and up. Our students, which just a short time ago didn’t know the Geez alphabet, have under Mr. Ghebreab Zere’s dedicated teachings, learned to read in Tigrigna. We also hope to start teaching the Arabic language, provide comfortable space for various programs for the elderly and other programs for the youth.

The community center needs your donations now more than ever because we have been faced with deficits in funds due to the COVID-19 pandemic; we have not been able to rent the building because of the social distancing restrictions. We have also sustained some minor damage to the building during the #georgefloyd protests and we continue to have regular graffiti and vandalism on our building, which add up to significant cost.

All your donation funds (100%) will be used to pay regular bills, for building maintenance, classroom improvement as well as repair to the garage, which is in a bad state. All personnel at the community are volunteers that do not get paid for their services.

Thank you!
