Fundraiser for Beatriz Agudelo

For those of you who don’t know, this is my mother, Beatriz Agudelo. She was born in Colombia, South America. She has worked and lived in the USA for 30 years. She is a loving wife, mom, grandmother, aunt, sister, and mother in law. To know her, is to love her. She has never seen someone in need and not been a helping hand in any way she could be. She is the most selfless person I have ever known. She has always worked, and has never kept a dollar to herself. She has always given everything she has to the ones she loves, and has dedicated her entire life to my dad and to us, her daughters. She has always worked so hard to make sure we could succeed in life, not just financially, but by raising us with morals and respect. My mother has a special place in Heaven, this I know for a fact. 


On the morning of September the 11th,  I found my mom in her bed. She could only respond with some undistinguished words. She has a medical history of diabetes, so I assumed her sugar dropped. I called my dad, Nicolas Agudelo, who was on his way to work, to return home as my mom was very ill. When he arrived we decided we should call an ambulance. As is with most cases of brain tumors, my mom was ordered to have a head CT as protocol at the local ER. We had no idea just how sick my mom actually was. The CT showed a mass on her brain, where she was transferred to Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville to see a neurologist. 
On September 17th, my mom was prepped for surgery and the tumor was removed. We were also told there are two other masses in her brain (tumors) and nodules in her lungs. A biopsy was done on the tumor that was operable, and it turns out my mother has cancer. To say we are all heartbroken would be an understatement. But if y’all could only see the amount of hope and faith that is in my mother’s eyes! She loves life and trusts in God so much, I have never seen someone so calm and peaceful in such a turbulent time. She keeps saying all her faith is in God and that she is okay, as long as His will be done. 

It has has been three weeks since my mom has been admitted, since my dad has been off from work, since our world turned upside down. My dad, who is doing everything he can to stay afloat, did not want me to do this. But I think he is starting to see the bills add up, and the financial uncertainty is starting to creep in. My mother does not have insurance, and measures are being taken to ask for help financially through Indigent. My parents are amazing, beautiful, special people. If anyone deserves a little help during this time, it’s them. If you find it in your heart to put a piece of relief in their life right now, this is how. And I promise every little bit helps, and every little bit is IMMENSLY appreciated. My mom has a long road ahead, and anything we can do for them is exactly what I’ll try to do.

Para aquellos de ustedes que no saben, esta es mi madre, Beatriz Agudelo. Ella nació en Colombia, Sudamérica. Ella ha trabajado y vivido en los EE. UU. Durante 30 años. Ella es una amorosa esposa, madre, abuela, tía, hermana y suegra. Conocerla es amarla. Cuando ella ve a alguien necesitado siempre está dispuesta para ayudar. Ella es la persona más desinteresada que he conocido. Ella siempre ha trabajado y nunca se ha guardado dinero para ella. Ella siempre ha dado todo lo que tiene a sus seres queridos, y ha dedicado toda su vida a mi papá y a nosotros, sus hijas. Ella siempre ha trabajado para asegurarse de que podamos tener éxito en la vida, no solo financieramente, sino criándonos con moral y respeto. Mi madre tiene un lugar especial en el Cielo, esto lo sé con certeza.

En la mañana del 11 de septiembre, encontré a mi madre en su cama. Ella solo podía responder con algunas palabras poco distinguidas. Ella tiene un historial médico de diabetes, así que asumí que se le bajo la azúcar. Llamé a mi padre, Nicolas Agudelo, que se dirigía al trabajo, para que volviera a casa porque mi madre estaba muy enferma. Cuando llegó decidimos que deberíamos llamar a una ambulancia. Al igual que con la mayoría de los casos de tumores cerebrales, se le ordenó a mi madre que le hicieran una tomografía computarizada de la cabeza como protocolo en la sala de emergencias local. No teníamos idea de cuán enferma estaba realmente mi madre. El examen mostró una masa en su cerebro, donde fue trasladada al Baptist Medical Center en Jacksonville para ver a un neurólogo.

El 17 de septiembre, mi madre fue preparada para la cirugía donde fueron capaz de remover el tumor. También nos dijeron que hay otras dos masas en el cerebro (tumores) y nódulos en los pulmones. Durante la cirugía una biopsia del tumor reveló que mi madre tiene cáncer. A decir que estamos con el corazón roto sería una subestimación. ¡Pero si todos ustedes pudieran ver la cantidad de esperanza y fe que hay en los ojos de mi madre! Ella ama la vida y confía tanto en Dios, nunca he visto a alguien tan tranquila y con tanta fe en un momento tan turbulento. Ella sigue diciendo que toda su fe está en Dios mientras se haga la santa voluntad De Dios. 

Han pasado tres semanas desde que mi madre fue admitida, desde que mi padre dejó de trabajar, desde que nuestro mundo se voltio al revés. Mi padre, que está haciendo todo lo posible para mantenerse a flote, no quería que hiciera esto. Pero creo que está empezando a ver que la incertidumbre financiera está empezando a aparecer. Mi madre no tiene seguro, y se están tomando medidas para pedir ayuda financiera a través de Indigent. Mis padres son personas increíbles, hermosas y especiales. Si alguien merece un poco de ayuda durante este tiempo, son ellos. 
Si encuentras en tu corazón ayudar con lo que puedan toda ayuda, se agradece IMENSAMENTE. Mi madre tiene un largo camino por delante, y cualquier cosa que podamos hacer por ellos es exactamente lo que intentaré hacer. Gracias a todos los que se han tomado su tiempo para leer esto, y gracias a todos los que contribuyen.
