Send Kaegan to the NYLF STEM Forum!

"Hi! My name is Kaegan Lee, I am eight years old, and I'm in third grade at Monte Sano Elementary in Huntsville, Alabama.  I am raising money for the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to STEM.  My GATE teacher, Mrs. Rebecca Campbell, nominated me to represent my school!” - Kaegan

The National Youth Leadership Forum, through Envision, is a fantastic program that will offer a unique opportunity for Kaegan, as it would undoubtedly aid in his growth as a student and as an individual. The importance of early STEM education is critical to help produce the next generation of physicians, scientists, engineers, and tech innovators. Kaegan has known his entire life that he wants to work in the STEM field when he grows up. He has expressed interest in becoming a number of different STEM professions, including a pediatrician, a robotic engineer, a geologist, and a chemist.

"I really want to go to the program because I love science and this is a great opportunity to learn more about scientific stuff!  Science is amazing!  STEM means science, technology, engineering, and math. I want to be a scientist when I grow up.  I am not sure what type of scientist I want to be though.  This program will teach me me more about science and technology and will help me pick what I want to be when I grow up!"  - Kaegan

Kaegan's GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) teacher, Mrs. Rebecca Campbell, has nominated Kaegan to participate in the NYLF: Pathways to STEM program that is being held at Agnes Scott College outside of Atlanta, Georgia, during July 2018.  Kaegan will join his peers from around the region in an immersive curriculum that focuses on the five essential skills for success:  "communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and goal-setting," while exploring different STEM pathways.

While at the program, Kaegan will have the opportunity to explore three possible pathways: Engineering (Bots & Programming), Medicine (The Incredible Human Body), and Crime Scene Investigation (Examining the World).

During the Engineering Pathway, Kaegan will work with the mBot robot to gain a better understanding of robotics, programming, and design.  The students will get to build and program a robot!

The Medicine Pathway will consist of role-playing as a medical intern. Kaegan will get to examine the circulatory system and the heart, and "practice medical techniques during a realistic simulation titled When Care is Hours Away.  This special session was created in collaboration with wilderness medicine expert Dr. Paul Auerbach and simulation expert Dr. Rebecca Smith-Coggins, professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Stanford University School of Medicine."

The CSI Pathway will allow Kaegan to dive into the world of forensic science to solve a case using finger print analysis, deductive reasoning, and case development.

What will your donation cover?

Your donation will help cover the cost of tuition for the 6 day and 5 night residential program.  The tuition cost is $2,195.  This includes all curriculum and instruction, program activities, site visits, two meals per day, a Certificate of Completion, and local transportation during the program.

This tuition cost does not cover travel expenses to and from Georgia (7 hours total driving time).  So in addition to helping fund the program, your donation will help cover travel expenses, additional meals and snacks (we all know Kaegan likes to eat), souvenirs, and other incidentals.

Thank you  for taking the time to read Kaegan's campaign, sharing the link on social media with your friends and family, and for donating!  If you would like to learn more about the Envision program, visit the website: Envision Experience!
