My name is Jena Ball. I'm the creator of the “Song Flight." The initiative was born of heartache, shock, and frustration. I was horrified by what was happening in Ukraine, but as just one person it was hard to know what to do. How could I help?
“Song Flight” is my answer to that question, but I need your help to support and grow the project – to reach and enlist the aid of as many people as possible. We must realize that what hurts one, hurts us all. We are all Ukrainians – all human beings who want and deserve the right to live free and healthy lives.
What is “Song Flight?”
Song Flight is a global initiative that supports Ukrainian children displaced by the Russian invasion by connecting them with their peers around the world. Song Flight uses story, music, creative collaboration, and project-based learning to help all children in the program develop both the emotional intelligence (EQ) and core literacy skills (IQ) they’ll need to grow into kind, capable, adults who won’t start wars.
Song Flight is based on solid neuroscience that has proven emotions have a huge impact on what and how children learn. Simply put, you don't get facts without feelings. The brain hardwires the two together to create memories. Therefore teaching children how to identify and deal with their feelings is a vital part of ensuring they acquire the self-awareness, confidence, and respect for differences they’ll need to be successful.
We have just completed the Song Flight pilot with 21 Ukrainian children and are moving to Phase II which will involve several classes from multiple countries. All of this will take funds. I am hoping you will feel as excited and committed to this project as I am and be willing to contribute some time, attention, and monetary support to help it grow.
