Funding for our Fauna

Dear friends,

I’m sure by now you’re no stranger to what’s going on in Australia. In short; a country that was once teeming with wildlife and biodiversity is now crumbling away, largely engulfed by flames that are projected to last months.

Australians have reached out on a global scale to get support for those who have lost their homes, and to get funding and resources out to communities that are now cut off from the rest of the country. Some incredible organizations like Australian Red Cross and WIRES have been leading the charge in rolling out large-scale relief efforts, and I truly can’t support the work that they’ve taken on enough.

However being just a short drive from the fires myself, I feel like I should only be doing more as I have the level of accessibility that my friends back home in North America may not. As a Vet Nurse in one of Sydney’s leading Emergency Hospitals, not only have I heard from a number of veterinary practices across the state that are desperate for support, but I have access to the supplies that they need urgently.

While the major organizations (like those mentioned above) are doing everything they can to provide aid as efficiently as possible, it’s understandably challenging to keep up. To put it in perspective, 500,000,000 animals have been lost in the bushfires to date and the number only continues to grow. You can only imagine how many need urgent attention in these rural veterinary hospitals.
