Atlantis Fellowship (Spain)

Hello my name is Arynn Pratt. I am writing this to inform you of an amazing opportunity that I have been awarded and to ask for your support as I continue my pursuit of becoming a medical doctor. Since middle school when I first started to explore career options, I always found myself to be intrigued with the brain and all of its functions. Seeing how a defect in the brain can change a whole person was one reason that I became interested in medicine. In medicine, I plan to pursue either a career in psychiatry or most recently, neurosurgery.

My freshman year of college I saw an ad on Instagram for Atlantis Fellowship. Atlantis is a pre-med Fellowship study abroad program that connects pre-med students with doctors in hospitals across the world, designed to help students like me solidify their place in medicine by getting first-hand clinical shadowing experience. Having shadowing experience among other requirements is critical for medical school acceptance.

Although I learned about Atlantis my freshman year, I did not apply. I was discouraged by the competitiveness and cost of the program. It is now my junior year and I still had a yearning to participate in this wonderful opportunity, so I took a chance on faith and applied. After the application and interview process, I found out that I was accepted to the fellowship. My admissions counselor even said that I was “a great fit” for this program.

Through this fellowship, I will be traveling to Ourense, Spain for 3 weeks. During my time there, I will shadow for 20 hours per week rotating through various specialties. I will also go on group excursions to gain exposure of the culture and connect with other pre-med students around the world. Through this experience, I hope to not only learn about another culture but also become a more well-rounded physician in the future by having this unique experience. This will be my first time traveling out of the country where I will not only be learning but having fun while doing it.

The total cost for this fellowship is $3,799, but I am aiming to raise $4,500 to afford flights, additional food, and extra expenses. The remaining balance is due on April 12, 2019. This is the area that I can use your help. If you are willing and able, I would greatly appreciate a monetary donation of any amount. Whether it is $5, $50, $100, or $500, I would appreciate anything. No contribution is too small! Your monetary contribution will not only support my summer plans with Atlantis Fellowship but also my pursuit of becoming a medical doctor.
