Let's all chip in to help this hero (Bryant Fritz) with Dory's medical expenses and brand new life! Bryant Fritz, the hero who rescued her, shared this. She was initially out much further. Luckily she was stuck on the end of a tree, head was barely above water, when I saw her and heard grunting noises. I dropped my fishing rods and tackle box, looked around with nobody insight. I could tell that she saw me and I didn't want to leave her for help or wait. So I took off 3 layers of sweatshirts and my jeans and went in. I'm 6' 5" and the water was above my waist. I pulled her up close to shore and realized I should take a picture for police, so I jumped up really quick, did that, and then dragged her and the crate up the hill. When I got her up I really first could see she was in bad shape and could barely move, let alone stand. There was blood on the pavement and she was missing fur everywhere. She had sores on her body and the skin on her paws was gone. I carried her in the crate along with all 3 of my fishing poles, tackle box and wet poles as fast as I could. But it wasn't fast enough. I kept thinking someone would see me and help. When I got to my truck I put her inside, turned on the heat and drove fast to my house, which is thankfully on the way to U of I. She was shaking so bad. I put a few extra shirts I had on top of her in the passenger seat and turned the vents towards her. I drove so fast I can barely remember it. When I got home she couldn't stand. I ran inside and got a dry fleece blanket and truly embraced her for the first time. She still could barely move and now she wasn't even able to look at me. I brought her inside so I could get out of my wet clothes and took a picture of her wrapped up. Her head stayed down and the shaking was becoming more violent. I scooped her up and again we drove faster than we should. I barely remember it again. I called U of I on the way and my partner Krystal. I kept my hand on her head the whole ride. I was still shaking myself from the cold. When I arrived she was almost stiff. I pulled her from the passenger seat like a baby and walked as quickly as I could. The folks at the reception desk were shocked, but very sweet. A vet took her from my arms within a few minutes. I filled out some paperwork and let them know that if she made it, I wanted to give her a loving home. I called back 2 hours later fearing the worst, but she was stable. Her temperature was so low that it didn't even register initially. Her crate was covered in dried feces, more than hours in the water could not wash clean. I think people should know this too. She was suffering long before she was dropped in the lake. (I randomly selected the $5,000 goal because I wasn’t sure how much the medical bills would end up being. ♀️I’m sure Bryant can put any extra towards routine care, food, treats, and toys for this beautiful sweet fur baby.)
