Bring Hope to Mentally Disabled
India is home to over TWO MILLION individuals with mental disabilities. As children, the disabled are taken care of by their families. However, once they reach adulthood, they are seen as a burden and released from their household.
Without any programs or infastructure to support them, they are FORCED into a life of suffering and poverty.
They are ABANDONED in a world that has a lack of understanding for their situation.
About Ashankura:
The Ashankura Trust looked to provide a solution. The trust is a center of guidance and shelter for individuals with mental disabilites such as mental retardation, Autism, and severe learning disabilites. 
The center aspires to TRAIN these individuals, IDENTIFY their capabilities, and GUIDE them into becoming self-sufficient adults. 
The students, are taught Yoga and prayers in the morning aswell as vocational crafts such as basket weaving, envelope making, and embroidery. The institution provides them with an opportunity to display their talents and realize their true potential.
Tragedy:
In 2016, the head of the Ashanukra Trust Mrs. Pramila Varghese passed away. She was the founding patron and was intrumental in funding the Trust and it's continued work.
After the demise of Mrs. Varghese, it has been very difficult for the institution to sustain itself and keep up with the rising numbers of demand. We are in dire need of supplies for the students and are slowly running out of funding.
