Just over a month ago my Granddaughter Josie Forsyth Fleming, who will turn two on Nov 2nd, was diagnosed with a large inoperable brain tumour. The preferred treatment is surgery however, due to its location in the brain this is not an option. Nor is radiation to shrink the tumour an option, due to her age. Therefore, the only course of action is chemotherapy with the hopes that the tumour will stop growing.
Josie's parents, my son Joel and his spouse Terra Forsyth will be required to drive from their home in Aylesford NS to Halifax NS a minimum of twice a week, for pretreatment bloodwork followed by chemo 2 days later. Estimated travel each way is 1.5 hours. This regimen is planned to continue for a minimum of 18 months. Joel and Terra also have a 3.5 year old daughter Marley, at home, who will require babysitting while her sister and parents are traveling to and from the IWK. Joel and Terra both were forced to give up their jobs in order to dedicate all their time and efforts to Josie.
The funds generated will help with travel and parking, day care for Marley, medical expenses not covered by Health Insurance and unexpected expenses that may occur over the forecasted treatment period.
Josie's battle has only just begun. This will be a long , tough road for such a beautiful little girl and her family.
