Fund the IMAM

The most powerful ruler in the world could sit in his office mouthing orders until his voice failed ; without humble and obedient servants to execute his orders he would be talking to himself. The closer one approaches to the centres of power the more aware one becomes of the role played by the instrument of government, the Civil Service. When evil men occupy the seats of titular power in one country or another they do so only by courtesy of good ‘civil’ men, who obey them without question, giving so much — the best they have to give as civil servants — to purposes which they do not think it their right or duty to assess. We must always remember that naked evil can very seldom operate in our world. It must wear a dress acceptable to the morality of the period, for men are only successfully misled if they believe that they are following the path of virtue. In the modern world, as the sense of the Divine faded into the lengthening shadows of materialism, the virtuous man’s moral sense was left by the wayside to be picked up by the agents of darkness. Evil political regimes maintain themselves in power through the ‘passive’ acceptance with which people submit to their rule. In these circumstances our modern ‘sensible’ people take refuge in the principle of legality, convinced that they cannot be culpable because they obey the law, and therefore are acting morally. But behind the ‘law’ is the ruler or the ruling oligarchy. This was not always so. There was a time when law was assumed to be the application of divine universal principles to the human situation at a particular moment and under particular circumstances - the very definition of morality. As such it enjoyed the respect accorded to these principles. Today it is, for the most part, the expression of the self interest of a financial elite - a kleptocracy. The fact that some legislative assembly or parliament may have put its rubber stamp on the legislation does not alter this truth.
