I have been working on this project for five years and have been close to getting it out for the last three. Every time I’ve tried to get it to the printer, I’ve had financial constraints that have made it impossible for me to go forward. ( I am a professional touring musician and I have three kids. Not the greatest recipe for financial fluidity…)
I realized a little while ago that this project could only be finished if I brought my community into the process. This a plea to you to help me get this book out into the world.
I am really proud of it. It contains all of the music from my two original instrumental CDs, Evil Diane, and Dance-a-rama, as well as tons of other tunes that have been played and recorded by such luminaries as Wild Asparagus, the Reckless Ramblers, David Greely, Dirk Powell, Grey Larsen, Chris Layer, Eden MacAdam-Somer, Rodney Miller, and Jeremiah McLane. Seventy great tunes in all.
In addition, I've included an 11 page autobiographical comic about my life as a dance musician and tune writer. It covers some of my favorite topics: growing up in rural Vermont, learning to contra dance with the hippies in the 1970s, tips I've learned from great tune writers, and some thoughts on how to write catchy tunes.
Even if you don’t read music, the book has something to offer you.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you helping me move this forward!
