Fund NBU Team's First-Ever Appearance at the Jessup in DC

Donation protected
New Bulgarian University has been consistently competing at the Bulgarian rounds of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition since their inception in 2010/2011.

However, never in the history of the Bulgarian Jessup law students from NBU proceeded to the international rounds in Washington, DC.

This year the team did the unthinkable performing toe-to-toe with the best teams of Sofia and Plovdiv universities contributing to the most competitive Bulgarian rounds of Jessup ever. Until the very end, it was impossible to predict how the top three spots would be distributed—many matches came down to a photo finish. At the end, our team finished third, just a few points short of the two top spots giving direct quota to the international rounds in DC.

However, NBU's performance exceeded expectations, setting a new standard both for their university and for the national rounds as a whole. Their oralists ranked among the top three, with just a single point separating them from the highest scorer. We also placed second in the ranking for best written submissions.

Given this unprecedented performance, the International Law Student Association (ILSA) - the body organising the Jessup - has extended an invitation to the NBU Team to compete at the international rounds as an exhibition team. This opportunity is granted annually to just a handful of teams that impressed at national rounds and deserve to participate in the world cup of public international law!

THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST EVEN NBU APPEARANCE AT THE JESSUP.

A unique opportunity to meet and work with law students from more than a 100 jurisdictions and be assessed and advised by some of the finest minds in the sphere of international law. Going to the international rounds will further contribute to the establishment of a strong Jessup tradition in NBU and deepen the knowledge and the skills of the Bulgarian law students as a whole.

Please help these wonderful students achieve their dream after eight months of very hard work and lots of sacrifices.

Now in its 66th year, the Jessup is the world’s largest moot court competition for law students, with participants from more than 700 law schools in over 100 different countries and jurisdictions. Participating jurisdictions hold national competitions to determine their respective representatives to the International Rounds, which are held annually in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the international law firm White & Case LLP, this year’s International Rounds will be held 29 March - 5 April 2025, at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, 400 New Jersey Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20001.
