Hi , my name is Finn and I’m a Y12 student at derby grammar school. Every year the sixth form go on a trip to Tanzania where we work at a school , orphanage and climb mount Kilimanjaro. For the last 10 years , the school has been working with Gedeli school. In this time we have built five new classrooms , installed electricity , toilets and fresh water , provided desks , textbooks , laptops and flattened ground for sports. Now we are starting a new project with a new school , Amani school. Firstly we will aim to get all the 38% of pupils that are currently on the floor into new desks and further aid their learning with new learning equipment and textbooks. After this , we go to help at Hisani orphanage and help replace a dangerous , barbed fence with a much safer one to allow the children to safely play outdoors. At the end of the trip we will go to climb Mount Kilimanjaro which will be yet another once in a lifetime experience , among the many within the trip. In order to fund my trip I will be partaking in a 10 kilometre run alongside another classmate that is also going.
