Hello! My name is Kara Carido, and I am 16 years old. I’m very excited to share that I’ve been accepted into a summer study-abroad program in Spain with CIEE! I'm very grateful to have received a $5,500 need-based scholarship from CIEE. Unfortunately, this scholarship doesn’t cover the entire program cost or flight costs. Although my parents and siblings are helping me pay, I am committed to raising as much as I can to help offset their expenses. I've been taking Spanish classes in school for 4 years. Since I was 12 years old, I've been dedicated to learning Spanish to fluency. I listen to a lot of Spanish music, watch Spanish media, and even have a 1200+ day streak on Duolingo! That's why I'm thrilled to participate in this program: It will be the most immersive Spanish experience I've ever had.

I will be traveling with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), an organization that has facilitated educational exchange programs for over 75 years. I’ve been accepted into their Honors Spanish Language & Culture program in Madrid, Spain. During my four-week stay, I will live with a host family, take Spanish lessons from native speakers, and explore the rich culture Madrid has to offer. Another reason why this program really excites me is because it will be my first time in Europe! Overall, this will be an incredible opportunity to not only explore a completely new world, but to boost my language skills to the next level.
