Help a school in rural India obtain 15 computers

What is the problem?

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced schools to be shut down, disrupting education for over 1.6 billion students, worldwide and a staggering 320 million students in India alone (as per this UN report ). Some schools in high income countries pivoted to remote or distance learning paradigms, usually done online, to ensure continuity of education. This shift requires young learners to have access to computers and the internet. However, in India, this access to technology can only be afforded by a small proportion of children, usually those living in wealthy households.

 When we delve deeper, we see the grave circumstances students in rural India face (as per this study ), where they have much less access to technology, severely disrupting their education.

Many schools in rural India do not have the necessary infrastructure to incorporate digital learning into their curriculum. The effects of the COVID-19 lockdown has been more pronounced for rural schools where even availing a computer can be a herculean task. Integrating technology with education and making it more accessible is therefore of utmost importance and also one of the priorities of the New Education Policy 2020 launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India. However, it is going to be a long time before it gets implemented. The children in SSVV School,  Kanhewadi Village, Pune cannot wait that long.


Moreover, post the lockdown, we’re looking at even less numbers of students returning to  school in rural areas. Before the COVID-19 crisis, the number of students at SSVV school had been steadily declining.

How will Humane Warriors support with the raised funds?

The schools open in mid-October in Maharashtra, as stated by the SSVV teachers. In Kanhewadi Village, the inhabitants come from various backgrounds: migrant workers, tribal families or agrarian workers.

The problem that the school faces is keeping their children in the school.

Exceptional work by Dr. Madhav Sathe and the  Bombay Mothers and Children Welfare Society (https://si.puneinternationalcentre.org/mentees/dr-madhav-sathe/) already shows the long lasting impacts of implementing a unique tailor made model of e-learning in village schools. This is an inspiration, all implemented through donations from regular people like you and me.

Through your help, we can let the villagers  know that their public school, SSVV school CAN provide their children with a digital learning curriculum that is up-to-date and can help widen their horizons, their ambitions, their career choices and motivate them to be change makers within their community. 

=> Our Plan

Stage 1a: Procure 15 more computers. Our volunteers in the vicinity will help set up the computer lab which is currently under construction.


Stage 1b: Develop an e-Learning curriculum in conjunction with the interests of the teachers and students. Work has already started on this.


Stage 2: Hold training workshops for teachers.


Stage 3: Hold skill development workshops for students.


Stage 4:  Reduce dependence on traditional power grids  by using Solar/Battery backup to provide electricity to the lab.

1. Location, Name and Contact details of the school.
2. Information about the vendors and quotations selected for the procurement of the computers.
3. Project Status Updates at frequent intervals

Additionally , weekly updates will be posted on the progress being made at the school about the construction of the lab and the development of the curriculum.

At the end of the campaign, we will release videos and pictures of the state of the lab with computers purchased  through  your donation.
