I find myself in a unique situation, having to ask for help. Those of you who know me, know this is not something I am comfortable with. I have been guided by many people that assure me it is OK to ask for help when you need it.
In November of 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and have been fighting ever since. The cancer has become quite aggressive, spreading to my bones and my liver.
When starting my job with the State of Maine many years ago I was a single parent raising 3 boys. I was very careful when making my choice for supplemental life insurance because I wanted to make sure I left enough for each of them.
I am no longer able to work, struggling with my declining health daily. Since I have gone from full time work status to Retirement Disability I will no longer be able to collect the supplemental life insurance I have paid into for over 17 years. The only way to maintain my policy, and not lose the money I have paid into it, is to continue to make the monthly payments until the policy is paid out at the time of my death. Since I am technically no longer an employee of the state I will have to pay the insurance company directly at a rate of $725 per month. This payment, combined with my medical bills and the fact that my income is greatly reduced, will be impossible for me to make on my own.
Each of my sons are wonderful individuals. They are family men working hard to make ends meet, as we all do. Being able to leave them the money I had planned, from the policy I have paid into for so long, will make my journey easier to bear.
I can't be sure exactly how much time I have left to pay into the policy. I am allowing for a hopeful 7 months with this campaign. The campaign total is as follows:
$5,075 ~ 7 months x $725
+ @400 ~ gofundme fees
= $5,475 goal
I know it is alot to ask, but please consider helping me reach this goal so that I can finish what I started for my children and grandchildren.
