Save Brookvale High School Legacy
Donation protected
The Save Brookvale History Committee are members of a non-profit community activist group formed to save the legacy of Black education during the segregation era on The Northern Neck. It is our sincerest hope to save Brookvale High School, the last remaining Black high school during segregation in Lancaster County, VA.
The physical remains of Brookvale High School, 36 Primary School Circle, Lancaster, VA 22503 are to be sold, leased, or rented, but the spirit of the school still resides. The property still has potential and purpose; to be a hub of community resources; continuation of educational excellence, the supportive institution of ALL of the citizens of The Northern Neck, and to be a part of the nurturing of her community’s future.
A May Day-themed event is projected to be held at the property. The application process for a historical highway marker is underway. If approved, the historical highway marker dedication will be the same day as the May Day. Our fundraiser, for both events, will be held on May 17, 2025.
$35,000 is needed for the cost of the historical highway marker and for expenditures for the event; preparation of the building and land, support services, promotional items, and supplies to ensure a successful May Day.
