Maddie is going on a study tour!

Guten Tag! My name is Maddie and I am a second year German student. I chose to take German so I could learn a foreign language I could relate to (I’m part German) and with hopes to absorb a European culture.  Every day in class we practice speaking German out loud and by taking notes in both English and German.  I received all A's my first year of German class.

Early last school year, my teacher  announced that in July 2016 she will be leading a group of her German students and/or their parents on a tour of Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.  My goal for this trip is to have my eyes opened to a different culture, foods, language, dialects, history and scenery.

The tour costs $3,370 for students,  This price includes my airfare, ground transportation, meals (breakfast/dinner), accommodations, tour director, tour driver, and entrance fees to the various attractions.  I am on my own for the cost of gratuities for the tour director, driver and tour guide (roughly $100 per person), for mylunches/snacks and for souvenirs (I will be happy to pick up souvenirs for anyone who puts in a request)

The trip lasts 9 days; two of which are used for flying roundtrip from Seattle to Germany. After we land in Frankfurt, we will travel southeast to Rothenburg for a tour and overnight while we adjust to jet lag.  Our second day we will pay a somber visit to Dachau, a World War II concentration camp, and spend the next 3 days in the city of Munich. From there, we will travel to and tour Neuschwanstein Castle, which you may remember from the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and was the inspiration for the castles found in the Disney parks.  We will then scoot through the micro-state of Liechtenstein and on to Lucerne, Switzerland for two days. After touring Lucerne and viewing the Alps, our group will travel north through the famous Black Forest, the Rhine Falls, and on to Heidelburg, the University city. We will finish our grand tour in Frankfurt before we head back home to share our stories and pictures with friends and family.

Those who generously donate to my trip will, upon my return, receive a German-style dinner in our home (Bratwurst? Bier? Schnitzel? Strudel? Sauerkraut? Ok, eww to the Sauerkraut) and a full presentation of my trip.  If you can’t make it to the dinner, my mom will make sure to post about it on her Facebook account.  I hope you will consider donating so that I may experience this lifetime opportunity.  Donations may be made online at Go Fund Me or you can contact my mom directly.  Thank you VERY much, and Auf Wiedersehen!
