For the Love of Cathy

This is my best friend, Cathy Deskins, one of the most loving and selfless people I have ever known.  She is also Matt's mom and Brandon and Chris's grandmother.  This picture was taken before the ravages of colon cancer and chemotherapy took her hair ... and, more importantly, her health ... and life as she knew it changed forever.  Throughout her cancer journey, she has continued to be so very brave and fight this battle the very best she can.  She continues to go to work every single day that she is physically able.  Things were looking up ... last week, she had a CT scan which showed that her cancer was stable and the good news came that she would be put on "maintenance" (a lower dose) of chemo.  Sadly, along with that good news came more terrifying news:  Cathy has developed a "saddle pulmonary embolism" which is a large blood clot affecting both of her lungs, and it can be fatal.  The blood thinner Lovenox is the very best treatment for blood clots in cancer patients -- the one that all of Cathy's doctors say will give her the best chance to survive.  That is why we are asking for your help.  One month of Lovenox injections is $350 at the very, very lowest price we have been able to obtain, and we have exhausted all channels.  She will need to be on Lovenox indefinitely to survive.  Our current goal is for an additional 12 months of Lovenox (she has already received donations for 2 months prior to my even starting this page.)  Please give what you can--every little bit will be helping to save her life.  And, if you can't give, please share this page.  And, above all, please pray for Cathy.  Thank you.  Val Spencer
