Each year, more than 6.4 million ton of debris is dumped in the oceans. More than one million birds and 100,000 mammals die every year worldwide after being stuck in, or by eating, plastic that they found in the sea. Every third seabird eats plastic thinking it is food. We think that this is unacceptable and we want to do something about it.
So, who are we and what do we want to do?
We are group of young swedes who wants to make a difference while sailing the globe. We are from the association "Mot Bättre Vetande" or in english "Towards Better Knowledge” and we aim to start our trip in August 2017, with a mission to spread awareness about the devastating impact plastic debris have on our oceans. During the voyage we will visit a large number of countries and meet an innumerable amount of people who all become a part of the project. We aim to do this through beach cleaning cycles together with the locals, pop-up exhibitions, lectures, concerts and art. We are also working towards various partnerships with organisations, universities and research centers to jointly preform measurements to identify and contribute to the research of plastic in the oceans and its impact on marine ecosystems.
We want to build a stronger and better planet for ALL, as a team.
All contributions, big or small, takes us one step closer to achieving our dream. With a little help from you, we can make wonders!
