Hello, my name is Emily Hinrichsen, and I am fundraising on behalf of Thomas Hapka. Toms' story is one of trials and tribulations, hope and optimism, and injustice and social importance.

 

What happened? Tom suffered a torn artery in his neck during a failed chiropractic appointment. He was then misdiagnosed twice at the ER and went more than 48 hours with NO care while his brain bled and swelled. There was NO legal settlement. Tom continues to need specialized care for his medical complications AND his family is in danger of losing their home.

 

Who is Tom? Tom has always been active in community service and passionate about helping others in need. He and his family are longtime supporters of community food pantries, animal rescues, and programs for homebound seniors. Tom is also a proud cat dad, writer, Star Trek fan, and a former art and music student.

What are Tom's challenges today? Tom may look and sound fine (brain injury survivors often do), but he still has major medical complications. He has vertigo problems that limit his ability to venture beyond his home, he has serious biochemical challenges, and he needs extensive physical therapy and optical rehab to help him regain some stability. Tom's home is also in jeopardy - he lost his career, his father died, his elderly mother is in rapidly failing health, and there are no financial resources left.
