Bangladesh Mission Trip

Donation protected
I am nearing the end of my “gap year” and feel so blessed to have had so many opportunities and experiences to grow over the past 11 months. The year started in Wheeling, WV working with my step-brother, Tate, as a laborer for an energy services business called JLE. We worked hard and I was able to save money as we lived in a “haunted house”, paid for by the company. I learned so much and got to travel throughout the NE with a pipe inspection team. I must admit the freezing winter toughened me up and waking up at 5am to work, surely prepared me for 8am college classes.

In January I left Tate in WV and headed to sunny Hawaii to begin work as a volunteer intern with Surfing The Nations (STN). My step-sister, Abby, has been volunteering for this organization for over a year, serving the poor and lost, while growing and developing her own faith as an intern and now as a leader with this Christian ministry. I have been challenged in so many ways emotionally, sometimes I would long for the cold WV winter just to get a break from intense bible studies and small group sessions. I was ready to head back to the comforts of home in FL but feel that I have been called to travel with STN to Bangladesh to serve those in need. I know this mission trip will allow me to share what I have learned and experienced in Hawaii and further develop my faith and trust in Christ. I was not interested in this trip initially, but know God wants me to go and be challenged with this experience.

STN has histoically traveled to Muslim prominent countries to reach the unreached. Bangladesh is a nation located on the northern edge of the Bay of Bengal. It is bordered on three sides by India. It is roughly the size of the state of Iowa but as a nation, it contains the eighth highest population in the world. On the southeastern side of the country is a coastal city and the longest beach in the world, Cox's Bazar. This is our destination.

STN brings surf boards, skate boards, and all kinds of donations to give to the families and kids within the community. We will go to build relationships and teach boys and girls how to surf and skate, but also share the love and compassion of Jesus. Therefore, I will be building relationships with the locals in the community through surfing and skateboarding which will allow opportunities for me share the Gospel. Poverty is widespread throughout Bangladesh and we will be able to serve and bless the families we connect with during the outreach.

I want to see God work outside of my daily life and I am excited to serve others who are less fortunate. God has called us to advance His kingdom and one way I can do that is to step out in obedience and go to the gnarliest places.

The trip begins April 12th and ends May 5th and my family purchased my flight. The funds raised will be used for ground fees, food and for the opportunities I will have to give to the families and kids I create relationships with. I also need prayer support as well. It will be really cool if you would partner with me financially or through prayer as I go on my very first mission trip and complete my “gap year”!

God Bless,
Jack
