The worst day of my life.

The worst day of my life:

As many of you know, my brother and I have been through a lot in our young life of 28 years. We lost our Mom a few years ago as she fought the battle against cancer for a couple of years.  What we experienced this past weekend shook us to our core.  I was sitting in church Sunday morning, and received a phone call from my brother, Steve, who I politely declined and said, “I was in church, and I would call him later.” He texted me back and said, “Call me, it’s important, I don’t care where you’re at.” I thought something had to be wrong as you may know my brother and I are never very serious with each other. I stepped outside of church, called him and said, “what’s up?’ In which he replied, “I don’t know how to say this but, I was getting groceries this morning to take home to Dad. When I got to the door, I walked in to say hello to Pops with all of the groceries for him and realized Pops had passed away.”……………… It hurts me so much to revisit this moment, but I have to be honest, I was an absolute wreck when I heard this from my brother. Most of you know, I have let tears go a few times in my life but this news brought me to my knees in the parking lot and I bawled for the next 10 minutes. The thought of never talking to your father again or ever seeing him again has got to be one of the most painful things a son can experience in life. The man that taught me how to kick a soccer ball, throw a football, mow the lawn, drive a 5-speed, to do simple math, to golf, to grill a steak and a million other useful life skills had passed away.  It’s only been two days since we learned he passed away but my brother and I now have a lot on our plate. My family was never well-off financially; in fact we have lived paycheck to paycheck all of our life. Moving forward with the process we have many financial burdens we have to somehow cover in the next several weeks and we could use any tiny bit of help you can offer. My father has debts from credit cards, bills, and property taxes that have to be taken care of in the near future by us.  Pops wanted to be cremated so even just a dollar towards his services would go a long way. We can’t afford a funeral service like we had for our mother so we are planning a memorial service at a later date for him. We believe in the power of prayer so if you have a minute or two would you be kind enough to send a prayer upstairs for the O’Hara family in this time of need. Thanks for your support.
