Medical Mission Trip to Guatemala

This December I intend on participating in a medical mission in Panajachel Guatemala organized by Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health (NMGH). I have participated in a medical mi ssion before in Agua Caliente Honduras organized by Global Medical Brigades-but this will be my first medical mission as a 3rd year Naturopathic Medical Student. 

I am thrilled to volunteer my time and contribute to the betterment of those in need  by utilizing what I have learned in my previous medical mission and what i have learned from the paradigm I have been submerged in for some time. I am confident that there will be a focus on empowering those in need in ways where they can play a more active role in their own health.

After speaking to students who have previously gone on this trip to Guatemala, there seems to be a lot that is needed. Some clinical conditions that are rampant are severe malnutrition, h.pylori, and diabetes. SO, of course there is plenty we can do!

ABOUT ME: I enjoy engaging in dialogue with people from different walks of life. To familiarize myself of what is going on in my community and the world at large allows me to better understand my world and my place in it. I am currently a 3rd year Naturopathic Medical student also working on a masters in Acupuncture. I have a passion for working with people in underserved communities and with individuals with learning and developmental disabilities. It's not so much ''treating'' these populations as it is the desire to guide and educate them to live healthy lives and keep the cycle going! :)
