Froylan's Journey

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. I think I'm still in shock-how does a daughter plan for her father's end of life care? For those that know me, you know asking for help does not come easy, but one of the many things that my dad's journey has taught me is that we cannot thrive alone.  We are communal people and our human nature is to seek connection. With that said, I am reaching out to family and friends for your support through this very difficult time for my family and me.

My father was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in December 2016. During the following year he received immunotherapy and reached remission.  Things were going well and my father was thankful and pushing through his treatment.  In January of 2018 he began complaining of leg pain. This prompted exams and evaluations that lasted months.  Finally, on May 2nd, I received a call from my dad; his PET scan results had come back.  What we thought was nerve pain was actually a tumor in his pelvic bone, it was aggressive and growing rapidly. That same night he was taken to the emergency room because the pain was so intolerable. May 2nd is so clear in my head now, its hard to think it was only just 3 months ago. That is the day our journey started, and his fight for life began.

Since then, he's been in and out of the hospital. He underwent 5 consecutive days of intensive chemotherapy, which we quickly found out, was not an effective treatment. So we tried another kind of chemotherapy, and we stayed hopeful and with faith. But unfortunately, my dad's cancer had developed immunity to chemotherapy and the cancer grew. At this point we decided to pursue a new treatment that would be long and complicated, but gave us hope. The treatment was called CAR-T cell; they would remove his fighting cells, attach a receptor and 3 weeks later they would reinsert the cells in hopes that it would fight the cancer. He was scheduled to receive these new cells the 14th of this month.

Unfortunately, at this point, due to his critical and declining state, he is no longer eligible for this treatment. And so I find myself here, asking for your monetary assistance to make his transition to the after life as easy for him and for our family.
All proceeds will assist in our ability to provide the celebration of life that Froylan Pina deserves.
As of now we have arranged hospice care for my father to be at home with his loved ones. If you'd like to visit or call, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.  Words cannot describe the overwhelming gratitude I have for our family and friends and your on-going support.

with love,
Jessy Pina

Si quieres visitar o llamar, me puedes llamar.

Jessy Pina
