Frontline Worker Needs Help at Home

Donation protected
My name is Alex Honn, a 24 year old aspiring firefighter and current EMT.

This year has brought hardship on many of us in the form of health, relationships and or financial situations. I am one, among many Americans and people worldwide that is struggling to make ends meet. I began working as an EMT months before COVID-19 became a global pandemic. The opportunity to serve our community on the frontlines during such unprecedented times has been both an honor and a challenge. I am grateful for the opportunity to work as an EMT in our community as a starting point in my career. Due to the low wages EMT’s make I have continued to work another job at the REI Co-op for what will soon be three years.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, REI was shut down, removing a large portion of my income. Due to my second job as an EMT, I continued to work throughout the pandemic too much to collect unemployment and not enough to make ends meet. As the months roll on, my savings are depleted and I have a large debt deadline quickly approaching.

As an outdoor enthusiast I am looking to further my career in wildland firefighting, search and rescue and progress into a career position at a local fire department. In order to do this, I have to make due with low wages as an EMT and countless unpaid hours as a volunteer.  This is how I wish to dedicate my life serving the people and because of that I know when I need to ask for help.

In addition to the assistance I need with rent and food, I reach out now due to a quickly approaching deadline. Two years ago, my grandparents offered to take out a loan for me at zero percent interest, the zero percent interest period will be expiring at the end of the month and although a large amount has been paid down, there is still a large sum remaining. I need to take the financial burden off of their shoulders and pay out my grandparents the rest of the amount due, $7,796. I attempted to get a wildland firefighting position this season which was intended to offset this amount. As I was not selected, I began working as an EMT and now find myself in this position.

I am asking for your help for rent, food and helping me reach my goals, while ensuring the care and well-being of a very well loved family member. Out of the $10,000 I am asking for, $8,000 will go to my grandparents, $1600 will go toward two months of rent and the remaining $400 will go toward food and groceries allowing me to continue my pursuit of service, and making possible the ability to take the hours needed to volunteer.

I thank you for your generosity and welcome any form of support, communication and/or questions. We are all in this together. Please feel free to contact me via the information provided.

Sincerely,

Alex Honn
