Akron organizers have been doing rolling protests, neighborhood canvasses, and community block parties to activate people and demand Justice For Jayland Walker. These have remained non-violent while we have continued to disturb the peace to bring attention to the city's continued crimes against humanity.
This was originally a fundraiser for specific needs, but the needs of on-the-ground organizers have grown. Funds have been dispersed for gas, temporary housing, childcare, and food. Other mutual aid needs may include partial bill and rent payments. Our goal is to try to alleviate some of the financial burden community organizers have been dealing with.
Priority will be given to the needs of Black organizers who are on the front lines of protests and events.
Expenses related to legal fines and fees and material reentry support for those arrested will come from the Akron Bail Fund (Akron Freedom Fund).
