From Homeless to Hopeful

Donation protected
Winter in Alaska can be a dark and frigid place.  But out of the darkness comes the light of a community joining forces to help one homeless individual.  When residents of Wasilla, Alaska became concerned about the well-being of their homeless neighbor, a plan came into action.  Wayne had been living out of his worn and tattered shell of an aluminum trailer.  Through the years, the lack of insulation or running water plus the extreme weather conditions have made this structure uninhabitable.  With mold forming, heat escaping and condensation dripping from the interior walls, the shape of this home posed a risk to Wayne's health and well-being.

Wayne, knowing no other option, made due with what he had.  He has formed relationships with neighbors over the years, and it shows in the initiative this neighborhood is taking to help create hope for a homeless man.  The conversation began with community members sharing their grave concerns they had for Wayne's safety and survival.  And now only months later, a "tiny house" has been purchased on loan and placed on Wayne's property.  This came as a Christmas blessing for Wayne in December of 2017.

But the community outpouring did not stop there.  Since then, a handful of dedicated neighbors have worked tirelessly to ensure that Wayne's new home is not only functional, but comfortable
for Wayne to live in for years to come.  He now has access to water, heat, a warm bed, counter space and most of all, an outpouring of love and encouragement from the residents of Wasilla.

Naturally, these positive changes have not come without challenges and sacrifice. The price to purchase, repair and furnish this home has been a growing cost.  Countless hours of labor have been generously donated, yet there are still loans to repay and ideally, futures repairs for Wayne's car so he can remain independent to travel to the market and laundromat when needed.

This GoFundMe page is a request that the reader support and share this cause, to ensure that this community project can continue and thrive.  This cause will help an individual emerge from being homeless to hopeful.
