FROM WILDERNESS: Music Left Unheard

Donation protected
Due to COVID-19, the FROM WILDERNESS premiere & album recording, set for this spring, has been financially halted.

We need your help.

Before the world was hit with the COVID-19 pandemic, FROM WILDERNESS was scheduled to have its world premiere with Choral Arts Initiative  on March 22, 2020.

Due to social distancing and public health restrictions, momentum and funding for this endeavor have been halted. This work means so much to not only myself but the entire artistic team involved in its creation. This Kickstarter will allow us to produce an album that can reach a global audience during this isolating and stressful time.

Now more than ever, the world needs music and healing. This music and project cannot be produced without your generosity. Help us bring this unsung music to life. Help us fund this album.

PROJECT | We plan to create a commercial album of my new concert-length work, FROM WILDERNESS. The album will be recorded in one of the finest recording studios, with some of the best artists and production professionals in the industry. This album offers a moment of healing through music.

FUNDS | With the funds raised, we can bring my music to life at the highest level of production and quality. We will be able to pay the musicians and production team, secure the recording studio, production costs and be able to share this musical experience with the world.

JEFFREY M. DERUS | I'm a composer who creates soundscapes from inspiring landscapes. My music has gained national and international presence with commissions & premieres by award winning ensembles. With this being my most ambitious work to date, it is my great hope to revive this collaboration of musical artists and produce an album of music that is evocative and healing. FROM WILDERNESS |  is a concert-length work and meditation on the transformative experience one has while traveling along the Pacific Crest Trail . As the work travels up the west coast from Campo, California to Manning Park, British Columbia, the listener will hear a wash of sounds that allow for introspective reflection on the sacredness of nature, the profound text and themselves. Through the healing properties of the seven chakras the meditation is guided by the celestial sounds of the crystal singing bowls. Vocal soloists give identity to the spirit animals that one can encounter on the trail and choose to embody in their everyday lives. Just as the trail leaves you with something you have learned, the listener will have an experience that will last beyond the final cutoff; something that is with you forever. From landscapes to soundscapes, this work offers a moment for self-discovery and self-healing.

As I began to create this work, I wanted the listener to have an experience that can last beyond the final cutoff, as the trail leaves you with something you have learned, something you now have with you forever. Through my own experiences in nature, I have come to understand that “…from wilderness I was made.”

Recording, producing and healing is what this project is all about. Ultimately, bringing the notes on the page to life and giving peace to many through music.
