From our room to a theater: "L TRAIN"

Donation protected

Sara Pizzi and Aika Takeshima are immigrants, activists, or LGBTQIA+, choreographers, and dancers creating the premiere dance work, L Train.

Our mission is to help people find freedom and possibilities in themselves using our movements, words, and passion. Thus, achieving our ultimate goal that everyone can be authentic to themself, bringing comfort in togetherness. We strongly believe in the power of art. It raises individual self confidence, leading to the understanding of diversity, opening the doors to eliminate prejudice and discrimination. No matter one's career, their being – emotions, opinions, and experiences – are expressed through art, which we capture to bring more truth to the world. Our art is a form of activism, documenting key issues and topics, highlighting how they may change, and creating space for reflection. For us, art is social action. We make art about and for humans. For this reason, the themes of our work are always based on the actual sensation of what people need in the moment or something we should let go from us. Sometimes, art makes people laugh, feel light, or reflect about themselves, to find and remember something important or forgotten, like solidarity and unity.

L Train is an evening length dance performance featuring seven dancers. It speaks about us. About the uncomfortable yet common sensation that we are not in control of life. One fleeting, precious moment does not last forever. Patterns, relationships, jobs, views, personalities, and thoughts are subject to change. Where is the stability? Change occurs in a few seconds, even without acknowledgment. At the end, life seems like the MTA L train line: everyone goes in the same direction, but nobody has the same destination.

L Train premieres at Green Space (37-24 24th St Suites 211 + 212, Long Island City, NY 1110) on January 21st and 22nd, 2022. However, this production is not going to end that day; our aim is to keep performing this production in NYC theaters during 2022/23/24.

This endeavor needs your support!

The funds will be used to compensate for the time, dedication, and commitment of our dancers and collaborators, cover production costs such as the rehearsal space, and to support our first production. With your help we are creating a future for the dance community that financially supports emerging artists. If we surpass our goal, the funds will be used to scale up the performance of L Train to a grand space. Please consider making a donation to choreographers, Sara and Aika, so that this project can continue to evolve, perform, and inspire. We believe this is crucial for both the artists and the community during a time in which art making has been deeply impacted. Any small or large donation is greatly appreciated and fundamental to the realization of this project. Your support will assist the realization of our dreams, the empowerment of the dance community, and the longevity of dance.

“Great things are not made by one person, but from a solid team” by Steve Jobs.

Thank you so much for your contribution to L Train!
