From Ohio to France: My Historic English Channel Swim
Donation protected
$10 to support a 12 year old girl's dream to make history!
Hi, I’m Amy Wamsley. When I was 12 years old, I set a goal to swim the English Channel before I turned 50. I am scheduled to swim the English Channel this spring before my 50th birthday in June!
This is the biggest challenge of my life and I am determined to be the first woman over the age of 40 from Ohio to swim from England to France. I am actually the first woman since 1976 attempting an English Channel solo swim who will be claiming Ohio as her home state and only the second since 1871.
This is one of the toughest open water swims in the world. That 12-year-old girl didn’t know how big this dream really was, but she knew it mattered. Now, at nearly 50 years old, I am ready to prove that dreams have no expiration date.
Why This Matters
This swim is more than a personal challenge—it’s a statement. As a plus-size woman and an athlete, I want to show the world that strength, endurance, and determination come in all shapes and sizes.
I also want to inspire others to chase their biggest dreams, no matter their age, body type, or background. If I can do this, what else is possible?
How You Can Help
Taking on the English Channel requires an incredible team and resources to make it happen. I began a nonprofit called Amy's SwimVenture that has helped with additional swimming costs when they are related to the nonprofit's mission.
However, there are remaining costs between now and when I make it to France before June 10th:
✔️ Pilot Boat/ Crew ($2000 upon arrival)
✔️ Travel ($5000 flights and local transportation)
✔️ Gear and Medical Supplies ($500)
✔️ Training Support Crew ($3000 - San Francisco Bay)
✔️ Room and Board ($6000)

To make this happen, we need to raise $18,000 by April 30, 2025.
If just 1800 people donate $10, we can reach this goal together!
