Hi, my name is Stacy Nderitu.
I am 21 years old, originally from Nairobi, Kenya. I came to the United States with my mom in December 2023 when she moved to Nome, Alaska to work as an elementary teacher. Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a nurse so I could serve my community and make a difference
in people’s lives.
When I finished high school in Kenya, I started studying medical science, but I had to put that on hold when we relocated. Here in the U.S., I was blessed with the chance to continue my education, and I am now pursuing a Pre-Nursing Associate Degree at Highline College in Seattle, Washington. I plan to transfer to a bachelor’s program in nursing so I can fulfill my passion for caring for others.
So far, I have successfully completed two quarters and I am currently in my third quarter. I live in the student campus apartments and dedicate myself fully to my studies. Recently, my status changed from H4 to F1 student, which means I no longer qualify for in-state tuition or federal student loans. Unfortunately, my mom has been unsuccessful in getting bank loans because of her work visa status. Paying for tuition has become a very heavy burden for us, and we have had to rely on small loans from family friends to cover the costs.
The tuition for international students at Highline College is very high, as you can see here: Highline College Tuition. My mom works so hard, but covering tuition and living expenses on her own is simply overwhelming.
I am reaching out through this GoFundMe to kindly ask for your support. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help me stay in school and continue working toward my dream of becoming a nurse. Your generosity will not only help me, but also the many patients and communities I hope to serve in the future.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for considering supporting my education. I am deeply grateful for any help you can give.
With gratitude,
Stacy Nderitu
