From Green Hill to Black Wasteland

On June 20th, a large wildfires broke out in the Western Algarve, destroying thousands of hectares of natural forest, wildlife that inhabited it, many people lost their lands, houses and their lifetime project. In just a few hours our land was burned to the ground and our family lost everything, our home, our belongings, all our tools and equipment. Everything that we had built and created by hand with dedication and passion was gone.  We are Dror (44), Quirina (44), Orion (14) and Indi (9), a family from Israel and the Netherlands. A few years ago we left Israel and our life in a kibbutz near The Gaza Strip. We left the constant hardship and the fear of raising a family in a “war zone”, and started over in Portugal.  Our dream was to live an alternative, nurturing life. Our vision was, and still is, to create an ecological learning center  with maximum integration and healing with nature, animals, permaculture and traditional  crafts & skills.  We built, planted and sewed everything ourselves. We created a self sustainable life. Our home was a yurt made by Quirina and dror from natural materials. We collected and preserved rainwater, cultivated the soil, developed the land, shared our experience and knowledge with everyone. All people who ever visited us said that it was a truly life-changing experience.  Now we are heart-broken by the loss. At this point, we cannot go back to living on the land itself before the land restoration work is finished.  Although it is very difficult for us, we humbly bow our heads to this new reality, and ask for your help, dear ones. This fundraiser will support us in renting an apartment, purchasing new tools and equipment,replacing the water systems, solar system and everything else that was taken by the fire.
