<div>My name is Kareem Habboub, and I am from Gaza, Palestine. Although I was born in the UK, I spent most of my life growing up in Gaza before returning to the UK at the age of 19.

<div>For as long as I can remember, my dream has been to become a pharmacist. Throughout school, I consistently achieved grades of 95% and above, but during my final year, my father passed away. Losing him was one of the hardest moments of my life, and the circumstances I was facing affected my studies, leaving me with a grade of 69.4%, which was not enough to get into Pharmacy.

<div>I refused to give up on my dream. I enrolled in Journalism and, despite everything I was going through, finished my first semester as the top student in my class. At the same time, I made the difficult decision to repeat my final year of school. Through hard work and determination, I improved my grade to 85.1% and finally secured a place in a Pharmacy programme. After years of effort, it felt like my dream was finally becoming a reality.

<div>Just two weeks later, the wa r in Gaza began.

<div>As a British citizen, I was forced to leave Gaza and return to the UK, leaving behind everything I knew. Once again, I had to start from the beginning. Because I did not have UK qualifications, I enrolled on an Access to Higher Education course. During this time, I was also working because my father was no longer there to support me. Any money I managed to save often went towards helping my family through difficult times. Despite these responsibilities, I remained focused on my education and achieved 39 credits at Distinction and 6 at Merit. I was accepted into five universities and eventually secured a place to study Pharmacy at Keele University.

<div>However, another challenge stood in my way. Because I had not been living in the UK for the three years before starting my course, I was not eligible for Student Finance. A generous man stepped forward and sponsored my first year, allowing me to begin my degree. I worked hard and successfully completed my first year, but when I applied again for Student Finance and appealed their decision, I was informed that I would not receive funding for the remainder of my course.

<div>Today, I am raising £14,000 for the year 2026/2027 to continue my education: £9,790 for tuition fees and the remaining amount towards accommodation. I will continue working part-time to cover my living expenses and contribute towards my accommodation costs.

<div>Over the years, I have faced the loss of my father, war, displacement, financial hardship, and the responsibility of helping support my family, but I have never stopped fighting for my dream of becoming a pharmacist. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help me continue my studies and move one step closer to achieving the future I have worked so hard for.

<div>منذ أن أتذكر، كان حلمي أن أصبح صيدليًا. طوال سنوات الدراسة، كنت أحقق معدلات 95% فأكثر باستمرار، ولكن في السنة الأخيرة من المدرسة توفي والدي. كان فقدانه من أصعب المحطات في حياتي، وقد أثرت الظروف التي مررت بها بشكل كبير على دراستي، فحصلت على معدل 69.4%، وهو ما لم يكن كافيًا للالتحاق بكلية الصيدلة.

<div>لكنني رفضت الاستسلام لحلمي. التحقت بتخصص الصحافة، ورغم كل ما كنت أمر به، أنهيت الفصل الدراسي الأول وأنا الطالب الأول على دفعتي. وفي الوقت نفسه، اتخذت قرارًا صعبًا بإعادة السنة الأخيرة من المدرسة. وبفضل العمل الجاد والإصرار، رفعت معدلي إلى 85.1%، وتمكنت أخيرًا من الحصول على مقعد لدراسة الصيدلة. وبعد سنوات من الكفاح، شعرت أن حلمي بدأ يتحقق.
