Otto’s Journey Through Barber School ✂️
Hey everyone!
My name’s Otto— after 15 years behind the New York Bar Scene. You’ve prolly seen me at Los Feliz,Dumbo House (2018-2023) and Koloman shaking cocktails and pouring shots, I’ve decided it’s time to trade in my shaker for a clipper and chase a new dream: Becoming a licensed Master Barber!
I actually started this journey a while ago, beginning an apprenticeship during the Fall right before the pandemic. But like many things in 2020, that plan got derailed faster than you can say “Zoom haircut.” So, I went back to bartending… but something kept tugging at me.
Now I’m fully committed to finishing barber school and building a new career I’m passionate about. I’m currently still working but have limited hours with everything going on. The only thing standing between me and a fresh fade license? Tuition and tools.
Here’s the breakdown: Between classes, books, supplies, and the state board exams, the total cost is around $5,600. I’m not expecting to hit that number—but every dollar helps, and I’ll be stretching every cent to make it count. Your donation would go directly toward keeping me in school and on track to graduate, clip in hand!
If you’ve ever sat in a barber chair and walked out feeling like a brand-new person, then you know what kind of impact this craft can have. I can’t wait to make people leave happy to take a selfie and send it to their friend’s.
I’ll keep you updated on the journey (expect some before-and-after haircuts along the way), and I’m so grateful for your support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or just a word of encouragement.
Thanks for believing in this pivot,
Otto G.
