Lake Geode Concession Renovation

This campaign is to raise funds to renovate the Concessions Building at Geode State Park in Southeast Iowa. Your donations will go toward restoring the structure to a functional condition so it can provide food, camping supplies, and rentals of watercraft & other outdoor recreation equipment.
Many in this area remember when the beach at Geode was the place to be in the summer. You had to get there early to get a good spot to throw your towel down! Over the years, other options for recreation in the area came and went. That along with a dimishining water quality forced the concessions to shut down operations. The building has been vacant for many years but is structually in great condition. With the lake restoration underway to restore water quality, and the campground renovation project scheduled to get underway in 2018, this is a golden opportunity to bring the concessions back to the beach for everyone to enjoy again.
The estimated concession building renovation cost is $134,500 which includes total renovation on the inside and the outside of the building, fixtures, inventory and rentals. The inside would have a sit down counter and several tables with views of the lake. Limited food items would be served along with drinks, ice cream bars, etc. The building will also serve as the area for non motorized rentals such as canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, standup paddleboards, etc. and will also have supplies for campers, some fishing supplies, items for beach beachgoers plus an area for souvenirs to help support the Friends group. The Friends of Geode group is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and betterment of Geode State Park. The group is funded soley by memberships and donations.
The concession building is scheduled to be torn down unless we can raise the needed funds to get the job done. This is an historic building and part of the park's heritage, and this is our opportunity to get it back up and running for everyone to enjoy.
