The Chestertown Farmers Market is participating in the "Maryland Market Money" program. Any shopper who uses their SNAP benefits, or their FMNP coupons (Farmers Market Nutrition Program for WIC and Senior Citizens) at the market, will receive matching funds in the form of silver tokens. That means that a $5 FMNP coupon is really worth $10 at the market!
In other words, recipients of federal food assistance program will be able to shop for locally grown produce! This program benefits both the shoppers as well as our local farmers.
In just two weeks, $200 in coupons have been redeemed and $200 in matching dollars have been issued! Women, children and seniors who have come are so happy to be shopping at the market. We need to make sure our matching funds program does not run out of money before the end of the season.
We want to support both our low income residents as well as our local farmers. Anyone, regardless of income, should be able to have access to healthy, local food.
Your donation would ensure that we do not need to turn down anyone looking for some extra help. We cannot thank you enough for your support!
