Friends of Roundwood Park community playground

Roundwood Café is a much loved community hub in Roundwood Park, located between Harlesden and Kensal Rise in North West London. In 2019, a team of locals formed the ‘Friends of Roundwood Park’ group and applied to Brent council for NCIL funding to transform the area behind the café, with the aim of creating a community garden and a playground with wooden play equipment for local children to enjoy.

At the end of 2020, we were delighted to hear we had been granted almost £10,000 from the council, to be divided between the two projects. This is brilliant, and work on the community garden is well underway, but sadly £5000 is just not enough to plan, design and build a wooden playground. After a lot of research and discussion with play companies, it has become clear we will need a minimum of £20,000 to see this project through.

So we have started this Go Fund Me page in the hope that our wonderful community will pull together to help us achieve our goal of raising £15,000!

This money will go towards:

-       Designing a natural, wooden playground for young children, approximately 2 – 6 years old.
-       The play equipment; we have been told we can fit 4 or 5 pieces of wooden play equipment in the available space.
-       Turfing the playground area; the play equipment must be installed on a suitable, safe surface, and turf is the most cost effective option.
-       Installation of the play equipment
-       Insurance and safety checks to verify the equipment is safe for children to play on

As soon as we have the required funding, we can begin the process of designing and building the playground, which we expect to take 2-3 months.

Finally, to be clear: this is a space for the entire community to use and enjoy – the garden will be open to anyone interested in volunteering, and the playground will be available for ALL children to play in, not just customers of Roundwood Café.

This is a really special opportunity to turn a neglected space into a real asset to Roundwood Park and the surrounding areas. Please – help us achieve our target and create an amazing space for our community! Your support means the world and we are grateful for every penny donated.

Thank you.
