Friends of Mr. Dean

Donation protected
As many of you know, Mr. Gale Dean, a veteran of the Vietnam War, has been living in a self-made outdoor encampment on the Dickson Rd. hillside for the better part of a year.

The Sewickley community has recently undertaken a collective effort to connect Mr. Dean to resources that he is entitled to as a servant of our country.  We are proud to inform you that, after a year of outdoor living, Mr. Dean has been spending many of his nights in a hotel. He is well on his way to transitioning into an apartment of his own and is working on his overall health through resources provided by Veteran's Place (https://www.veteransplaceusa.org) of Washington Blvd.

However, Mr. Dean can still use your help! As an initial matter, many members of the community have spent money assisting him in sorting through his possessions and disposing parts of his camp that were not worth preserving, which necessitated a dumpster rental. However, with the holidays quickly approaching and the weather getting colder and colder, it is evident that Mr. Dean would benefit from some warm clothes, new boots, and some new books/electrical engineering projects (he is quite resourceful and spends his time tinkering with SnapCircuits). He will also be partially responsible for paying the rent on his new apartment, which fortunately will be highly subsidized due to the exceptional services provided by Veteran's Place.

We have started this GoFundMe campaign as a means for our community to band together and provide our neighbor with an expression of the love he deserves as a  long-standing member of the Sewickley community, and the gratitude he deserves as a veteran of our country. He loves Sewickley and it is evident that the hardest part of his transition will be leaving this town.

To those who donate, we will be providing a detailed accounting and periodic updates on Mr. Dean's status. Stratton and I are committed to being a part of Mr. Dean's life moving forward to continue our friendship and to ensure he has an ongoing connection back to the town he calls home. I am certain he would appreciate your willingness to be a part of this effort. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any additional ideas.
