I first met Lore when our disaster relief chainsaw unit was on a callout in September, 2017 after hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coastal area. Our unit received a work order to remove a tree that had fallen into a mobile home (picture). After removing the tree and tarping the exposed area on the trailer we were in the process of putting up our equipment and heading to the next site when Lore approached me and a fellow volunteer. She had an egg carton in her hands and told us that she did not have any money to give us but wanted to give us a dozen eggs from her chickens that survived the storm. She was told by FEMA that her mobile home was repairable and after contacting several contractors all responses were the same - the mobile home was a total loss. Another volunteer group demolished the damaged mobile home and removed it from the site. Lore has been living in a utility box trailer (picture) for several months. No kitchen, no bathroom, no bedroom. Lore and her two dogs have a cot that Lore sleeps on and the dogs sleep under the cot. We are trying to raise money to replace Lore’s mobile home. Lore has not made any demands as far as the type of replacement - she says that just about anything would be an improvement over her current condition. The goal is to purchase a new mobile home to help Lore rebuild her life.
