Friends of Her's

Her’s (Stephen Fitzpatrick & Audun Laading) were one of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming bands. With the ability to channel the surreal and the sublime through a twist of perfectly oddball pop, together they birthed a catalogue of songs so original in voice that they inspired devotion from fans the world over. Following their critically acclaimed EP ‘Songs of Her’s’, the band went on to release debut album ‘Invitation to Her’s’ in 2018, a record entirly brimming with character, tenderness and sophistication. Celebrated by everyone from the BBC to Rolling Stone, there was no limit to what they would have undoubtedly gone on to achieve.

However, in the early hours of Wednesday, 27th March – whilst travelling to their hotel following a show in Phoenix, Arizona – the band lost their lives in a head-on collision with a car driving in the wrong direction up the freeway and we lost them forever. This utterly senseless act instantaneously robbed two families of their children with a cruelty difficult to bear, let alone comprehend. In that instant, the world was denied their energy, vibrancy and genuine talent. Stephen and Audun loved one another like brothers; they were kind, warm, gentle and hilarious. As a duo, they were destined to be together and together they remain. We miss them every day.

In their memory, Friends of Her’s will take place on Sunday 16th June at The Bombed Out Church, Liverpool. The event will include DJ sets from the likes of The Orielles, Happyness, Brad Stank and Pizzagirl; an exhibition by official band photographers; a presentation of the band’s artwork; and exclusive video screenings. Stephen and Audun were always very humble and particularly loved house parties with friends, to this end we encourage fans throughout the world to join in by holding parties of their own on the same day, sharing their events via the hashtag #friendsofhers.

Together with the Bombed Out Church team, a Friends of Her’s memorial fund has been established on behalf of Stephen and Audun to seed fund a legacy of creative projects for homeless people. It will provide the means to purchase materials and equipment for participants to utilise. Activities will include music, drama and fine art taught by a collective of LIPA and John Moores University students, alongside BOC volunteers. Healthy living classes, yoga and tai chi will also be provided. The aim is to teach transferable creative skills that can be used as a vehicle for self-expression, empowering participants and transforming lives. An apt memorial for two talented young men whose lives were so tragically cut short.

Fittingly, Liverpool’s Bombed Out Church was a place Her’s passed daily. It is therefore of great comfort that their memory is being celebrated so wholesomely and locally to where they lived. Homelessness in the UK is a crisis and was a subject that touched both Stephen and Audun inordinately. On behalf of the band’s family and friends, we appreciate any donations – no matter how big or small.

A special thank you to Saam Jafarzadeh and Sam Raymond, Ambrose and Laura at the Bombed Out Church, Rob Gibbs and Kim Astley-Cooper for helping to make this project possible.

Thank you for your time.
