The Genesis Foundation (GF) based in India identifies children suffering from congenital heart disease, a life threatening heart abnormality that develops before birth. The foundation specifically identifies children from families who are financially unable to afford medical attention, and provides to them surgeries free of cost. The cost of a heart surgery is around Rs 150,000-200,000 (Approx $2200-2900).
We are raising money to fund heart surgery for Tamannaya, a 3 -year old baby girl from the district of Kozhikode, in Kerala. She was born on 5th June 2015 weighing around 3kg. She was the second daughter born in the family, her elder sister Sanmaya is an active seven-year old protective of her little sister. Their father, Mr. Lineesh, is a daily wage worker while their mother Sujitha runs the household and looks after the children. The baby girl was born at a local hospital in Kozhikode. However, The Congenital heart defect was identified at 6 months of age, when the child had pneumonia and was admitted for two weeks in Calicut Medic College. The doctors identified a hole in the heart and asked the parents to wait to see if the hole would close over time. The baby was under close check up with Dr. Shine Kumar who has been running an Outreach Clinic at Kozhikode Amrita Ashram.
When the baby was seen by Dr. Shine Kumar on 9th September 2018 during the camp held at Amrita Ashram in Kozhikode, both parents were counselled about the need to close the hole using a device. The parents were panicked but Dr. Shine assured them to close the hole using a device and there was no need for an open- heart surgery. The total cost of the procedure is Rs. 1,50,000 ($2085) and the procedure is due for the third week of October.
