As many of you know, Cyndi moved to her dream town of New Bern, North Carolina last June. She looked forward to small town life, close to the Atlantic Ocean. After years of being in record setting snow storms in Massachusetts in recent years, this was a dream come true to get away and also be near extended family. She moved only a car load to her new home and purchased locally to fill her home.

Now that dream is in jeopardy. New Bern is now a well-known disaster city, famous for record flooding, featured nightly on cable news networks. For Cyndi, this was much more personal, her home is gone. She rented an apartment one block from the Neuse River.

The flooding required an evacuation, with devastating floods that still are not done and may yet crest to an even higher level. Cyndi's apartment flooded to the ceiling, damaging kitchen cabinets, topping over the refrigerator, and even moving a heavy sofa across the room. Local sewage was overwhelmed and flooded the apartment along with the river storm surge and hurricane induced rain. Nothing is salvageable.

Fortunately, Cyndi got out safely before the hurricane hit with two car loads of clothing, electronics, and her kitten.

She is now staying with a friend close to the area temporarily. But now she will need to start from scratch. It took nearly $5,000 to get initially established in New Bern with moving to a new state, furniture for her living room and bedroom, a TV, utilities, kitchen smaller appliances... can you imagine having to lose all that in a weekend?

Cyndi is temporarily homeless. New Bern will have limited housing with many people displaced. We hope she can get a new place since her apartment is condemned.

Please consider giving to help Cyndi replace her destroyed possessions and fund the search to get setup in a new home. FEMA funds may eventually kick in, but it may be some time before anything helpful comes in. I know many of you felt helpless seeing Cyndi lose everything but not be able to do anything. Here is our chance to help.

Thank you, every little bit helps.

P.S. Although I live in Fairfax, VA, we helped her get moved initially into her new place on Craven Street.
