Friends in Lombok Earthquake Relief

Donation protected
I started this campaign in response to the 7.0 earthquake that shook Lombok on August 5, 2018.  Among the thousands affected, my close friends' villages were destroyed.  My friends are now all accounted for, and they’re safe with their families on Lombok.  They were lucky to have survived relatively unharmed, but not lucky enough to remain unaffected.  Attached are photos of what they have to deal with now.
(UPDATE: Unfortunately, the last large quake on August 9 took the life of a family member and left the villages in much worse shape.)

Their homes, schools and mosques are damaged and uninhabitable.
They don’t have work because it’s safe to say that nobody is going to travel to Lombok or Gili Islands now…
There is no insurance.
Buildings aren’t made “up to code.”
They don’t have medical plans.
My friends don’t have the same opportunities and safety nets I have.
What they do have, though, are strong communities that will spoil you in endless amounts of affection and love.  They will protect you when you’re afraid and take care of you when you’re sick.  They will welcome you into their home after barely knowing you and do everything they can to make you feel safe and comfortable.  At least that was MY experience.

These people are my friends and I’m asking for help.  I’ve never set up a GoFundMe before and feel extremely vulnerable asking for money for a cause that may not mean much to you but that touches me deeply.  I know personally how far $10 can stretch here in Indonesia and I am asking anyone who is comfortable parting with that to please do so.  I have already sent the guys $120 to buy food for their two villages for a few days.  But what about the fact that they will spend the next couple months cleaning up? And how will they get the money to rebuild their homes and schools when there is no industry?  How will they deal with the trauma of the event and other medical expenses?

I went to these villages.
I spent time with these people.
I held these babies.
I played with these kids.
I slept in these homes.

So to all my friends and family back home and around the world, please do me a MASSIVE favour and donate, I will personally deliver 100% of the funds to these families.  It costs between $500-1000 (Canadian) to repair or rebuild their homes and I’ve set a goal to raise $5k by August 12 to divide between the two villages and fix 5-10 homes.  It won’t fix everything but it’s a start.

Thanks for listening <3

- TRANSPARENCY -

How the funds are being used:
For food and medical supplies, as needed, for two neighbouring villages in Gunungsari, Northwest Lombok near the city of Mataram.

How I'm delivering the funds:
As the GoFundMe is in Canadian dollars and cannot be directly deposited into an Indonesian account, I am depositing them into my Canadian bank account and then transferring them overseas to my account here.  I then send my friends money when they need more food in denominations ranging from $50-$150, which lasts between 3 days and a week.  Since there is no end in sight for the crisis, my friends are conscious of making the money stretch and I am keeping the majority safe in my account as it is not safe to have large amounts of cash on Lombok due to looting and theft.  All transactions are being accounted for with photos and on a spreadsheet.
