Dear Friends,
I'd like to begin by thanking all of you for your prayers and concern for my family, friends and everyone in Puerto Rico. The Commonwealth Island of 3.5 million American Citizens has been ravaged by Hurricane Maria. 100% of the Island is without power. Thankfully my nephew who works at the Arecibo Observatory was able to get word out that my family in Arecibo are safe. There are many more family and friends in Caguas, Naguabo, Rincon and Ponce that I still have not heard from. Many families here on the mainland are still without any communication from their loved ones. Now more than ever, Puerto Rico needs our help.
As we've seen in the news, help is on the way with most of the aid arriving in San Juan. The areas most affected by the hurricane are in the central mountainous region of Puerto Rico and to the west. There are a lot of elderly folk who live in these areas and who mostly likely are without food and water.
This is why I am asking for your help by creating this gofundme campaign. I, along with four of my friends will be traveling to the west side of the Island during the first week of October or as soon as the airport in Aguadilla reopens. I can assure you that every dollar donated will go to purchasing non perishable food, water and health supplies. We will personally distribute these goods to the people most in need. Because of the lack of power, families are unable to withdrawal much needed money from ATM's. Every family we visit will receive a bag of non perishable food and money to tie them over for a few days.
