As you may have heard, our dear friend Mike DiSanto suffered a life-changing and debilitating stroke on Monday, July 22, 2019. As a staple in the Buffalo music community, the effects of this stroke have affected us all.
As you’re also painfully aware, a full-time music career and full medical insurance coverage rarely go hand in hand. While Mike has a mountain of love and support, he is also facing several weeks, if not months, of intensive in-patient physical therapy, occupational therapy, effectively re-training the entire left side of his body. He will require around-the-clock assistance for the foreseeable future while he attempts to regain control of his legs, face, and arms, including the very skilled hands that serve as his sole source of income.
No two strokes are alike, and at this stage, it is impossible to predict his level of success, nor even his ability to return to music. What is certain, however, is our friend’s need for financial support. Keeping him afloat while unable to earn a living will likely cost into the tens of thousands, so while the medical professionals do their part, we need to do ours for our funny, fellow musician.
Martha Stewart Washington and Scotch, Mike’s two beloved dogs, are being well taken care of by a dear friend…but they miss him as much as anyone. We will earmark some of the funds collected to their care as well.
We will do our best to update you on his progress. For now, it’s time to do what the Buffalo music community does best – rally around our own and make this transition as bearable as possible.
