Frieda Roos-Van Hessen, Jewish Holocaust survivor, turns 100 years old on April 24th.
Hello. I am Daniel Gittleman, the author of a biography called From Singer to Survivor. I wrote this book when I was 12 years old, as a part of a series called A BOOK by ME which are true stories written by children for children about Holocaust survivors. (www.abookbyme.com )
I established this funding mission because on April 24, 2015, Miss Frieda turns 100 years old! Her one birthday wish is that her biography be published and read by children across America.
Will you join me in making Miss Frieda’s wish come true? My goal is to have 1,000 copies of From Singer to Survivor published, launching a nationwide distribution to every public library and school starting in her home state of NC.
There could not be a better way to celebrate this remarkable woman’s life than to see the success of this project. Plus, you will be investing in the education of the next generation about this significant time in history.
My biography chronicles Frieda’s life in WWII as an acclaimed 19-year-old opera singer from Amsterdam whose career came to an abrupt end. She was forced to become a fugitive in her own country. Though Frieda was fortunate to survive the war by miraculously escaping the Nazis eight times, the rest of her family was killed in Auschwitz, the worst of concentration camps. Frieda married, and went on to have a family. Today, Frieda resides in Charlotte, NC.
