Rorys Journey to Success

My name is Rory Bakker and I am 7 years old. I was born with a disorder called Bilateral Schizencephaly because I had a stroke before I was born. Because of this I also have Seizure Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delay, Vision Problems, hydrocephalus, Chronic Migraines, vomiting, and chest infections. I was given less than a year to live, but my parents fought really hard and prayed really hard too and now I will be 8 years old this year. I'm a fighter. I have spent alot of time in the hospital as I have had alot of infections in my brain fluid due to VP Shunts that had become infected. I nearly lost my life many times. My parents never gave up on me however, and even though I cannot walk or talk or take care of myself in any way, they have chosen to care for me full time. This is hard work as I require over 10 different medications during the day and night, I also need them to move me so I do not get bed sores or pressure points. My family also take me to therapy and I go to school 3 days a week, but because I get really tired I cant go more days. Because I am palliative, many people would have given up, but not my family. They found a wonderful therapist who is also my friend. Her name is Dora and she does conductive education therapy with me. This therapy has allowed me to take some steps with the aid of a walker, to learn to use my hands and arms, and to give me a sense of achievement in my life. I want to live with the best quality of life that is possible and I will work hard with all those that help me achieve this. I also go to salt therapy which helps me not have as many chest infections. Unfortunately though, my family has run out of funding to pay for my therapy and I really need this to keep up my quality of life. Please help us by giving as much as you feel able, this therapy has helped save my life. And will continue to do so. Thank you.
