Fresno African Drumming Project

Donation protected
My name is Donte. I created this GoFundme not for myself, but for the Community of the San Joaquin Valley. The goal is to raise money to purchase a set of 30 African Drums to be used for Community Drum Circles, African Drumming Classes, and for Drumming Intervention & Therapy for the Youth of the San Joaquin Valley!

I hesitated to ask for donations, but remembered: This is OUR community, MY community, and the joy of drumming is for US! Our community has the resources so I pray that you support us in any way you can.

EVERY dollar raised through this GoFundme goes directly to purchasing 30 African Djembes.
One $150 donation=  1 Djembe that will be played for years by kids and adults in our community!

HOW DID IT BEGIN:
It was not until October 2019 that I stopped running from the gift God gave me and decided to combine my Masters of Social Work Degree with the passion and JOY I experience from African Drumming. Myself, my wife Sharessa (Bachelors of Non-Profit Administration), and Congolese brother Jireh (Masters of Community Leadership and Transformation) have teamed up with nonprofits, schools, and churches all over the San Joaquin Valley to deliver African Drumming to people the community, and we have seen nothing but the Lord's work being shown in the smiles of kids and adults in our community!

With the MISSION to unify and uplift all people, cultivate community, and spread joy and culture through drumming, we continue to foster an atmosphere that promotes social resilience through West African Drumming.
As a musician and Social Work Practitioner, I understand that equity is only addressed through engagement, exposure, and access. As we continue to look for alternate funding sources, our African Drum group has remained faithful and strive to empower our community by using both our talents and our very own resources.

As a developer of a Drumming Intervention for African American Youth, I have found that research extensively supports the benefits of collective drumming. Drumming builds interpersonal support and connections through rhythmic engagement, promotes physical and mental health, decreases stress, promotes unity, fosters inter-community connectedness, promotes diversity, and is just.....FUN! By helping us purchase these drums, you are giving EVERY individual who beats the drum an opportunity to experience these benefits firsthand! The 30 African Djembes that we will buy will last for more than 20 years! So whatever amount you are able to give contributes to years of having the San Joaquin Valley experience these benefits!

Thank you all!
