Fresh Start for Anne

For the last four years, I have been helping a group of women in Jinja, Uganda to find an international market for the beautiful paper bead jewellery they make. One amazing lady, Anne Nyapendi, coordinates everything in Jinja and works tirelessly to improve the lives of the 90+ marginalised women in her organisation, the Women's Empowerment Livelihoods Link (WELL)...but now she is the one who is struggling the most.

After many, many years together Anne's husband has suddenly turned on her and this week he beat her so badly that her leg was dislocated and she is now in a cast. She is afraid of what he might do next and knows she has to leave him, but she is not financially independent as her work at WELL has always been voluntary. Although she does make money from her share of the jewellery sales, landlords in Uganda often insist on the first year of rent up front, an amount that is impossible for her right now.

I have committed to make her monthly payments myself until she can get on her feet, but I need help to raise the deposit and some extra cash to get her settled.  Anything you can contribute would mean so much to Anne...and to me!
